ECSU elections occur in Michaelmas Term every year, with results announced before the end of 6th week. It is through these elections that every undergraduate at Emmanuel gets the opportunity to both stand for a role on the ECSU Committee, and to vote for other candidates.

Format

  1. The Returning Officer (a member of the current ECSU Committee who is not standing for re-election – by default the Vice-President for Operations and Freshers Week) emails the college informing them that applications are open to join next year’s ECSU Committee.
  2. Applicants submit a manifesto to the Returning Officer, outlining their plans for the year ahead, and a supporting nomination form (signed by two Emmanuel undergraduates who are not currently on the ECSU Committee).
  3. The Returning Officer shares applicant manifestos with every Emmanuel undergraduate, alongside a form to submit anonymous questions to candidates at Hustings.
  4. Hustings! This is where all candidates for the ECSU Committee give a 1 minute speech (3 mins for VP candidates, 5 mins for presidential candidates) outlining their plans for the year and why they should be elected.
  5. Voting opens online shortly after Hustings. Elections are processed by Cambridge SU and results are published as soon as possible.

If you have any questions regarding the elections process, or are interested in running for ECSU, please contact the Vice-President for Operations and Freshers Week at vicepresident@ecsu.org.uk.
